Specialty Fitness Programs at the Maplewood Community Center generally run 4 to 12 weeks. Each program is designed by a trainer to offer fitness training, education, accountability, support and friendship. Participation ranges from 4-12 participants and 1 trainer.

Class Descriptions:

10 Lbs Down! - Group Weight Loss (6 weeks)  

Connect, Commit, and Change! This class combines comprehensive wellness training, fitness programming, and education, in a small group setting. Each class meets 1 hour/week for 6 weeks and includes the following:
  • A Certified Personal Trainer to Guide you through the program
  • Body Composition Testing and Measurements at the start and end of the program
  • Nutrition Tracking Tools and Tips
  • Weekly Exercise Sessions and Fitness Assignments
  • Weekly Group Discussion Topic
  • Weekly Weigh-in and Fitness Tracking
55+ TRX Training - Strength, Balance, and Stability Training (6 weeks)  
The TRX Suspension Trainer is the system that leverages gravity and your bodyweight to perform hundreds of exercises. It helps you develop strength, balance, flexibility and core stability simultaneously.  You are in control of how much you want to challenge yourself on each exercise because you can simply adjust your body position to add or decrease resistance.  Join Certified Personal Trainer Barb Johnson as she guides you through this 6 week strength training program specifically geared for participants ages 55 and older.  

Aerialates - Cirque-It! (6 weeks)   
A dynamic exercise class that combines the aerial arts with Pilates, challenging and inspiring the body and spirit. This artistic movement incorporates Pilates techniques while suspended, using trapeze or fabric for support. Cirque-It combines exercises from the Aerialates® curriculum with standard resistance training for a fast-paced, full-body workout. The Cirque-It program takes participants through a 45-minute workout and is designed to challenge all fitness levels. 

Boot Camp (4 or 5 weeks)  
Time for results! Boot Camp is designed to challenge every major muscle group. Using a variety of equipment, including your own body weight, your Certified Personal Trainer will blend strength, resistance, cardiovascular and flexibility training, speed and agility drills into one concentrated class. Boot Camp is for those who want to look and feel great and take on a new challenge! Designed for all fitness levels. 

Fitness Orientation Bypass Class (4 weeks)
This class is designed to give youth ages 10 and older who are interested in working out at the Maplewood Community Center, a head start. They will learn basic fitness principles for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. They will also learn about body-weight exercises and machines that are age appropriate. Passing this class will qualify the participants to utilize the fitness areas independently. Qualified youth will learn how to access their youth pass at the end of the 4 weeks. 

Kettlebell Training (6 weeks)  
Be Inspired, See the Change! Develop speed, flexibility, strength and stamina with Kettlebells while building long lean muscle. The movements in Kettlebell class can be tailored to match just about any real life movement. Class size is limited to 8 participants. This is a 45 minute class. 

Momentum! - Group Weight Management (6 weeks)
Do you enjoy small group workouts, support, and accountability? Momentum is for you. No doubt you struggle to get your exercise in each week or each day. You need motivation, guidance and support. You’re not alone! Most people know the basics about how to lose weight and get fit, they just get bored, frustrated and lose motivation trying to do it all by themselves. In Momentum, you have the opportunity to be coached and trained with a small group of like-minded individuals working as a team to provide additional support and encouragement. Optional weekly weigh-in is recorded in private.

Senior Strength Training (6 weeks)
If you're interested in feeling stronger, healthier, and more vital, this program is for you. This 6 week strength training program will increase the strength of your muscles, maintain the integrity of your bones, and improve your balance, coordination, and mobility. In addition, strength training can help reduce the signs and symptoms of many chronic diseases, including arthritis.

Taekwondo (Monthly)
There are many benefits of Taekwondo for all ages. In addition to self defense, confidence and discipline, taekwondo can greatly improve your fitness levels.This exercise works the majority of muscles both upper and lower body and helps increase muscular and cardiovascular endurance. Every person is an individual so it is up to you how much energy you exert into your training.

TRX Suspension Training (6 weeks)
Build total body strength, balance, flexibility, and joint stability simultaneously utilizing a TRX Suspension Trainer. Because of its demands on the core, Suspension Training essentially turns every movement into total-body activation, reducing the chance of injury. Because of increased muscular demand, Suspension Training increases caloric demand making it an effective tool for weight loss.
