Welcome to Kid City! 

Maplewood Parks & Recreation is teaming up with the award-winning artistsof Z Puppets Rosenschnoz for Year 2 of KID CITY, thanks to funding fromMinnesota State Arts Board, St. Paul Foundation, and Bigelow Foundation. Here's highlights of KID CITY in action, Fall 2016: BRAINSTORM THEATRE Fairview Alternative High School students are collaboratively concocting creative solutions to real-life challenges in their school, neighborhood, cityand world through improv. LAUGH LABS Families at Tubman Center are getting the giggles, designing and building their Happy Places and collecting laughs for the next Maplewood Laughter Museums. Stay tuned to see where KID CITY will pop up next!

• April 1 Laugh In: Celebrate Maplewood's Day of Laughter with the Joke Swap Challenge, performances and lots of laughs at the Maplewood Community Center.
• Summer Maplewood Parks & Recreation WOW Events: Jump into creative mayhem and fun surprises with KID CITY artists. BEHOLD! THE POWER OF PLAYFULNESS.

Kid City Programming Overview: 
  • Laughter Labs -  These classes took place in early spring for children ages 10 -12 years old.  These children were invited to explore humor from all angles with jokes, improv and clowning around.  
  • Laugh In - On May 14,  the entire community was invited to celebrate Maplewood's 1st Annual Day of Laughter at the Maplewood Community Center
  • Teen Videographers - High school students can apply for Spring and Summer internships with Z Puppets to make mini-documentaries about Kid City. 
  • Laughter Museums - Hee hee hee and ha ha ha.  Listen to laughter from your fellow Maplewood residents at kiosk placed throughout the city.  
  • Kid Council - Students ages 11-13 joined Kid City artists and brainstormed, improvised, and acted out solutions to real-life challenges in Maplewood identified by the Mayor.
