A Massage Practitioner (Therapist) license is required of any person performing massage therapy, who has received a massage degree or certificate from a recognized school. Recognized schools must be approved by the state higher education services office or equivalent licensing authority for programs offered outside of the state—which includes not less than 500 hours of training in the theory, method and techniques of massage.
Exempt from licensure are massage practitioners that works for, or is an employee of, a licensed medical (or dental) professional.

All license holders are required to be familiar with the provisions of this chapter and with applicable Minnesota Statutes and federal regulations.
