Egress Window
Overview

A permit is required for adding an egress window and must meet specific requirements of the building code.

See the basement finish handout for egress window requirements. Construction plans are required when applying for the building permit.

Note: You will be required to have smoke detectors in all bedrooms throughout the house at the final inspection for final approval.


Documentation
Documentation required when applying for an egress window building permit:
  • Building permit application – including project valuation
  • Three copies of construction plans – including size of window and window well
  • Three copies of a certificate of survey or site plan - showing the proposed egress window and all distances to property lines and other buildings
  • Separate permits are required if there is plumbing, mechanical or electrical work
