Porch
Overview

A porch is viewed as a non-enclosed, non-heated structure attached to a dwelling requiring an insulated door between the two areas.

A building permit is required for such a structure and frost footings are required. See the single-family lot guidelines for standard setbacks from your property line.

If a contractor is constructing the porch, the city requires the contractor to be licensed with either the state or the City of Maplewood.

Documentation
Documentation required when applying for the porch building permit:
  • Building permit application – including project valuation
  • Three copies of building plans – including cross-section of house, floor plan and footing plan
  • Three copies of a certificate of survey or site plan - showing proposed porch and all distances to property lines and other buildings
  • Separate permits are required for plumbingmechanical or electrical work
