Permits to connect the sewer services from new residential and commercial construction to the city's sanitary sewer main are issued by the Engineering Department in Public Works. Permits are also issued here for repair and capping of existing services
To obtain a permit, the contractor must be licensed by the City of Maplewood as a sewer contractor. License requirements are available through the Public Works Department at (651) 249-2400.
Rates for a sewer connection vary based on the classification of the structure. Single family (R-1) and townhomes with single service to each unit are charged the same rate. Multi-family, commercial, and industrial structures are charged a slightly higher rate. You can view the fees on the site.
A permit is also necessary for sewer repair and capping. If it becomes necessary to cut into a city street to do a repair, an open cut permit with escrow is usually required.
A permit must be issued before any work or inspections are done. To schedule sanitary sewer inspections:
- On the day you wish to have the inspection, call (651) 249-2400.
- The last scheduled time for an inspection is 2:30 pm
This is the only number where you may schedule a sewer inspection.
