The Maplewood City Council adopted a new sign ordinance on January 25, 2010, and made minor amendments to that ordinance in July and August 2010 to address political campaign and temporary banner and window sign regulations. The purpose of the new sign ordinance is to establish a comprehensive and impartial system of sign regulations that balances the needs for effective visual communication including business identification and the needs for a safe, well-maintained, and attractive community. Sign Permit and Sign Installer License
A sign permit is required for all permanent signs and some temporary signs (see Temporary Sign section below). In addition, all sign installers (including sign installers who install portable temporary signs) must be licensed by the City of Maplewood.
