In 2007, 24 truckloads (240 yards) of buckthorn were removed from nine neighborhoods. Within these neighborhoods, 23 private residences and two townhome associations participated in the free buckthorn pick-up program.
Crestview Forest Townhome residents logged an amazing 400 hours of volunteer work to tackle their buckthorn problem! Their properties were transformed back to oak forest which will allow oak seedlings and native wild flowers to return and grow.
A massive amount of buckthorn was removed from Flicek Park with help from 6 North High School National Honor Society students, Friends of Maplewood Nature and Maplewood Open Space Committee volunteers.
The City of Maplewood has implemented a City buckthorn program for many years. Contact us for more information about past year’s programs.
