Highway 36 through Maplewood, and the new English Street diamond interchange, opened to traffic on August 31 just in time for Labor Day Weekend after expedited construction work.
Also, the new Bruce Vento Pedestrian Trail Bridge is complete and open for use.
Southbound English Street from the new interchange will re-open at Cope Avenue the evening of November 2nd. In the meantime, the detour for southbound English Street will continue to be Highway 61 to County Road B.
During October the contractor will build the new road connection from the Gervais Avenue cul-de-sac at Harvest Park to Viking Drive in the neighborhood north of Highway 36 just west of Hazelwood Street. Also, the earthen berm and landscaping will be installed between the residential neighborhood and Highway 36 during that time period.
In October the contractor will be finalizing reconstruction of the old frontage road located on the north side of Highway 36 generally between English Street and Highway 61.
ALL BUSINESSES ARE OPEN DURING CONSTRUCTION. SHOP AND BUY LOCAL.
The 75-day closure of Highway 36 allowed this project to be built in one year instead of two. This helped reduce user costs and impacts to the travelling public.
This project greatly enhances safety, mobility, and access to local businesses and residents.
